1965-1968 Mustang Fender Running Horse Study:
This page was created in an effort to clarify the various running horse fender emblem designs used on 65-68 Mustangs. There were several revisions of the running horses, and superseded part numbers, which do nothing but confuse us.
As of now, this is just a start. I'll add to this as I find out more information.
For 64.5-66 Mustangs, the running horse fender emblems were used on all Mustangs except GT's. On 64.5-66 Mustangs, the running horse fender emblems came from the factory with thin attaching pins. The attaching pin on the tail of the horse is centered in the tail. Barrel nuts are used to attach the emblems and are included in the original service part boxes.
On 67-68 Mustangs, the running horse fender emblems were used on all Mustangs except GT's. In '67, 289 Mustangs had a special running horse with '289' added to the top and 390 Mustangs had a special running horse with '390' added to the top. In '67, the same '289' and '390' was used and additionally, a '302' running horse came about when the J code was added as an RPO. For '67 and '68, the only Mustangs that came with a plain, no CID designation, running horse fender emblem would have been 6 cylinder cars.
