1964 1/2 Ford Mustang K-Code Convertible VIN: 5F08K168182
Vehicle Description

This 1965 red mustang K-Code Convertible is one of the very rare 64 1/2 K-Codes ever build. Rangoon red exterior, bright red Pony interior, 300 horsepower high-performance 289 cubic-inch engine with expensive Shelby performance upgrades such as an aluminum high-rise intake manifold, a monstrous 715cfm Shelby dual-feed Holley carburetor and a ribbed-aluminum 7-quart Shelby oil pan. Fresh, professionally rebuilt engine features hardened valve seats for today's petrol (valve work alone exceeds $600). Hipo, solid-lifter powerplant has zero miles except for in and out of upholstery shop and paint shop perhaps a billion times. Shelby add-ons boost the Mustange rocket's original 27l horsepower to 300-plus. The solid lifters and stock dual exhausts sound like a symphony...waiting for the crescendo. This desirable muscle car is equipped with power steering and a C4 automatic transmission, making it a joy to drive. Originally, the 1965 K-code high-performance Mustangs were all equipped with 4-speed transmissions and stiff clutches that would render your left foot dead in stop-and-go traffic. Not until the following year, 1966, did Ford build Mustange K-codes with automatics. And very few! The K-convertible before you is an early car which originally came equipped with the plain-Jane standard blah interior. Not now. Full Pony interior. Everything bright red except for seats, which are red and white. Carpet, Pony door panels and dash are red, as are seat belts. In addition to the Pony interior, the car now features most GT options including the deluxe woodgrain steering wheel, RallyPac tach and clock, woodgrain dash, console and trumpet exhausts. New chrome, new emblems. Even the chrome side vent windowswere replaced new at a cost of $l,000, including new rubber and installation. White convertible top is new and has the deluxe rear window. It's fit is superb, as are the fit of the roll-up side windows. The suspension was rebuilt about two years ago when the car was painted and partially restored. Its Rangoon red exterior was just recently color-sanded and buffed to a high luster. Not show quality, but quite presentable indeed. The convertible's underside has been nicely detailed, too. Has there ever been a body panel replaced on this car? Has it ever had any rust during its 38 years on the streets of Southern California? Yes, apparently, to both questions. Driver's door has been replaced at some time and small patch panels have been welded into the passenger floor areas. There has never been any significat rust and the body is straight...and the body panels align quite nicely. The puny original l4x6-inch Ford styled-steel wheels were cast aside and replaced with new l5x7-inchers on the front and l5x8-inchers on the rear to provide a much more aggressive stance. Wider and lower, thanks to Kumho 60-series tires that help this Mustang handle better, stop better, accelerate better and look better. The Shelby 715 Holley carburetor recently was rebuilt by JET performance in Huntington Beach, Calif. Automatic trans fluid, gasket and filter replaced. Brakes checked out fine. New fuel pump, water pump and rebuilt steering pump.
