1964 ˝ MUSTANG
RARE HIPO K CODE COUPE Vehicle Description This car is a
substantially correct 64 ˝ K Code 271 HP Solid Lifter Coupe.
It was delivered through DSO 21 (Atlanta) and I acquired it in
Alabama. At the time of acquisition the speedometer was broken
and had 97,456 miles on it. I replaced the speedometer with
one that had 49,063 miles. The car shows an assembly date of
July 6, 1964 making it a true 1964 ˝ car. It has most of the
1964 ˝ features except the hood, which is after market. The
HIPO engine, although not the original, is the correct 289 cu.
in., 271 HP, 5 bolt bell housing with large vibration damper
and generator. The engine has Hipo exhaust manifolds, manual
choke carburetor and the original HIPO motor mounts. The
engine is has not been overhauled but is original with about
40,000 miles on it and is in excellent condition. The car has
a Borg Warner T 10, 4 speed transmission with close ratio
gears and has been completely rebuilt. It has the correct 9
inch rear end with a 3.00 to 1 gear ratio. The car came
originally with the optional 3.89 to 1 gear ratio. This car
has 4 wheel drum brakes which have been completely renewed
including the steel brake lines. A new dual exhaust system was
installed using most of the original exhaust hangers. The
front end has been rebuilt including springs and shocks front
and rear. The car has HD suspension and manual quick steering.
The red interior is completely new including weather striping
and new gaskets for the front and rear windows. The car also
has a console. The body floor pans, left rear quarter, rear
panel and hood were replaced and the car painted wimbledon
white with polyurethane paint in March 2002. The cowl is not
rusty and is water-tight. All chrome was replaced. The engine
compartment and undercarriage have been detailed. The car was
restored to “show driver” standards but could be up-graded to
“show” with little effort. This is a rare, very early HIPO car
which should maintain its value over the years to come.
